Let the Bikers draw Muhammad Cartoons in Arizona

Mike Ghouse of America Together Foundation, has released the following statements.

Let this be clear to my fellow Americans, w
e all have a collective responsibility to communicate and understand different values and learn to respect the otherness of others. ( An appeal to add to Friday Sermons is also made at the bottom).

Let the Bikers draw cartoons of the Prophet, look to this as an opportunity to follow the practice of the prophet, he was a mercy to mankind and it is time for Muslims to demonstrate that.  What did he do when he was harassed on his way to Taif? He prayed in the tradition of Jesus, "forgive them God, for they know not".  God's will was to show a way to build better societies by mitigating conflicts and nurturing goodwill and not aggravating it.  Thus he turned the other check as Jesus had and prayed for the well being of all.

This Friday, I urge Muslims around American Mosques to open up their hearts an minds of understanding, instead of sulking, retrieving to a corner, getting angry or harboring ill-will, I ask them to pray for the well being of Biker Americans in their Friday Sermons across the land and hopefully across the globe. Let them make an effort to build a cohesive America where no American has to live in apprehension or fear of the other.  Let’s do our part right and seek God’s help in repairing our relationships.

I request the Islamic Community Center in Phoenix to welcome the guests with abundant supply of bottled water, leave it on the tables outside. If I can make it, I would like to be there and meet with our biker brothers and sisters.  I am one of them in free spirit, and one of you in practicing Prophet’s kindness.  More details at:  www.AmericansTogether.org

The free speech is an enduring value and the hallmark of civilizations, and we simply cannot compromise on it, however much a few may abuse it.  Indeed, Free speech is one strong element that will bind Americans together.

Criticism can fade away or rain on us depending on how we respond to it. Lack of conviction in one's faith breeds intolerance towards criticism, whereas firmness in faith can lead us to learn from criticism, explore the infinite wisdom and realize the strength of our faith (Imaan); a worthy feeling to have, instead of living in doubt and shooing criticism away.

We need to handle criticism of Quran, Islam and the Prophet with grace, and respond to it gracefully. At least it increases the chances of mitigating the conflict and restoring harmony. The other way around is fighting back, which guarantees further aggravation of the conflict and isolation. Let freedom of speech remain the corner stone of Islam.

I urge fellow Muslims to be open to all the criticism with confidence, let the doors of communications be open.  Islam stands on its own; it does not need our defense, and it is silly to protect God or the Prophet, they are not weaklings or our property to protect, they belong to the whole universe, don't they?

APPEAL FOR FRIDAY SERMONS:

I hope and pray that we will let the world know that Prophet Muhammad was a mercy to mankind, through our acts.   God willing,  over a period of time, we will replace the wrong perceptions accumulated about us in the last 30 years,  and go back to good times of respecting each other. Ask your Imam to pray for the well being, safety and security of every American whether we agree with him or not. Prophet Muhammad was all about mitigating conflicts and nurturing good will, and let's consciously do that, so once again the world can believe that Prophet Muhammad was a mercy to mankind.

As Muslims we seriously appreciate the gains we have had, that far outweigh the tensions given by a few who know not.

Reflections on Memorial Day 2015

Please do not wish a “Happy Memorial Day” on this day; it is not a celebration to be happy about, it is rather an observance to commemorate and ponder. We observe the Memorial Day on the last Monday of May every year; remembering and honoring the men and women who died while protecting and serving our country.

Why does it matter to you? The freedoms that you and I cherish or take it for granted, did not come to us on a platter and was not a given thing either, it was earned for us through the sacrifice of men and women who fought for it. It is particularly important day for all the immigrants who enjoy full civil rights and equal opportunity in America.

I am pleased to share my thoughts, hoping you would find it to be a meaningful day for you. What will I do and what can you do is as follows.

The tradition of Memorial Day observance began after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and confederate soldiers who died in the civil war. Indeed, it was the civil war that abolished slavery which was the stepping stone for passing the Civil rights Act of 1964 and the very cause for the immigrants to make it to America.

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance and reflection, it is time to pray for those have passed away, whether they are related to us or not and whether they have served in the military, police and fire or not. Please take a few moments to remember all those who have influenced, affected and cared for us, and those who cared for others whether we know them or not. It is not necessarily a noble thing or a religious thing, it is the right thing to do.  Indeed, it is the thing that enriches our souls and brings humility and connects us back with ourselves.

On the Memorial Day in 2010, I drove from Louisville to Dallas, an 840 miles journey and stopped at every cemetery that was visible on the road side. I said a short prayer asking the creator to restore the balance on the earth though forgiveness to those who have sinned and bring completeness to those who left incomplete transactions in life.  I particularly remember stopping at 4 national cemeteries, and there was one near Nashville on I-40 for the veterans, which was off the road, and I drove through a creek to get there and paid my homage to the men and women who died for my country's freedom. It just feels good to be a part of the whole.

What is the point in doing all this? Its a moment to connect with ourselves and know thyself. We are on run every day chasing the next moment, and there is no time for ourselves...we give time to strangers, friends and others, and it is a good idea to give some time to ourselves.

The best thing you can do for yourselves is it to take 'an hour' away from everything and every one, and reflect on your life. There is nothing more peaceful than knowing yourselves.

There is a beautiful Islamic supplication that asks God to forgive the ones who are alive and the ones who are dead, and the  parents, family, friends, believers and strangers. It runs something like this, “Dear God, forgive me and my parents and my teachers and all the believing men and women, the living and the dead with your mercy. Amen." Thank God for this inclusive pluralistic prayer seeking goodness for all the living and the dead.

It is time to pause and reflect on life and express gratitude to those who helped shape you. In my case, I will take out some time to reflect about my Mother,Father, Maternal Grand father, Dadski (father figure), my late wife,  one of my two favorite uncles, the relatives I was close with, the teachers who were good to me, and the strangers who were good to me, and friends who have passed away and several others.

I will pull over on the road side at every cemetery I spot on the memorial day and silently pray for them. Praying for the unknown connects you with the unselfish-self in you, giving a sense of joy that is hard to explain. Try it and see how good you feel about yourselves - visit a cemetery, eventually we all have to go there.

I am writing this every year as a reminder, several of my friends have called and wrote that they also made the trip and it felt good for them.

Let's wish (pray). Dear God, we thank you for the life and the freedom you have given us, and we thank all those who have sacrificed their lives to have this freedom to stand freely and pray here today, I salute our men and women in the uniforms for protecting and defending our freedom. Amen.

God bless America.

Press Release - Muslims Challenge Al-Baghdadi’s Lunatic Message

Muslims Challenge Al-Baghdadi’s Lunatic Message

Dallas, Texas – May 18, 2015. Al-Baghdadi, the self proclaimed Caliph of ISIL released an audio message on May 14, misrepresenting the values dearly held by millions of Muslims for fourteen centuries.  He said, "Islam was never a religion of peace. Islam is the religion of fighting” and added, “It is the war of Muslims against infidels."

Mike Ghouse, President of America Together Foundation said, “Al-Baghdadi has angered the entire Muslim world, no one thought he would stoop that low to flip the entire religion to suit crimes against Muslims and non-Muslims alike.  My concern is not only his lunatic statement, as many such men have come and gone, but it is the joy expressed by the war mongers that concerns me. It is, as if Baghdadi has reaffirmed their (false) belief about Islam, and now they can continue to malign Islam.”

We are just coming out of the two longest wars; they not only destroyed Iraq and Afghanistan, but cost billions of dollars and affected thousands of lives here in America.  Now the war Mongers want to put boots on the ground again in the Middle East that is not acceptable.

Al-Baghdadi is a narcissistic dude and is for himself.  The truth is Quran advocates justice with mercy.  It directs the humanity to build cohesive societies where no human has to live in apprehension or fear of the other.  A few verses are referenced below.

The entire Muslim world has condemned Al-Baghdadi,  even the rival countries like Iran and Saudi Arabia have condemned, the OIC representing all of the 57 Muslim nations, British Muslims and American Muslims have condemned it. References are given below.

I hope that we capture Al Baghdadi and his soldiers and put them on trial.  We need to demand proof from Al-Baghdadi to produce support for his claim that, “It is the war of Muslims against infidels” from the Quran.  We hope the world will see that it is neither Islam nor the Quran, it is the bad guys.  The world should not let go of this opportunity to put the ISIL ideology die its own death.  We also urge the war-mongers among us to stop looking for excuses to destroy world peace.

Muslim Condemnations

Baghdadi may have a force of 31,500 on his side, and thus far he is the only spokesperson for the group, indeed he is the driving force for his self proclaimed Caliphate (rulership).
Threat Matrix reports, “Islamic State fighters in Iraq and Syria number around 20,000 to 31,500 — a figure far higher than previously estimated, the Central IntelligenceAgency has said.”

Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia’s Highest Religious Authority:  On August 19, Al Jazeera reported that Saudi Arabia’s grand mufti, Abdulaziz al-Sheikh, the country’s top religious authority, said that terrorism is anti-Islamic and said that groups like the Islamic State which practice violence are the “number one enemy of Islam”

Iran: Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, addressed the victories of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) against a fleeing Iraqi military in a meeting with Syria’s ambassador to Iran. “The expansion of terrorist elements of [ISIS] and their violent acts in Iraq was a warning for the region,” Shamkhani said. “There is a need for attention and action from governments and the international community.”

USA: On August 15, 2014, the World Muslim congress had called on Muslims to Dedicate Friday Sermons for the Safety of Christians, Yazidis, Shia and Other Minorities at Huffington post. World Muslim Congress of Dallas has urged Obama to go ahead degrade and destroy ISIS in an op-ed at Huffington Post on September 4, 2014.  Just about every American Islamic and Muslim organization has condemned it.  ING has compiled the list.

UK: Huffington Post reported, 100 Sunni and Shiite Imams from the U.K. came together to produce a video denouncing the Islamic State, releasing a statement that they wanted to “come together to emphasize the importance of unity in the UK and to decree ISIS as an illegitimate, vicious group who do not represent Islam in any way.”

OIC - The Organization of Islamic Cooperation represents all the Muslim majority nations: The Islamic State Has “Nothing to Do with Islam,” Has Committed Crimes “That Cannot Be Tolerated.”

Quranic Verses

Quran remains a pristine, inclusive book of wisdom committed to building cohesive societies, where no human has to live in apprehension or fear of the other.
Quran (55: 1-13):  God created an integrated and interconnected world in harmony and balance, and wants us to preserve and maintain that balance.

Quran; (
5:32) (Asad) “Because of this did We ordain unto the children of Israel that if anyone slays a human being-unless it be [in punishment] for murder or for spreading corruption on earth-it shall be as though he had slain all mankind; whereas, if anyone saves a life, it shall be as though he had saved the lives of all mankind.  And, indeed, there came unto them. Our apostles with all evidence of the truth: yet, behold, notwithstanding all this, many of them go on committing all manner of excesses on earth

Quran: (1:1 and 114:1) From the very first verse in the first chapter to last chapter is addressed to the humanity, all the humanity.  Quran is a book of guidance for all.

Quran (49:13)
(Asad) “O men! Behold, We have created you all out of a male and a female,  and have made you into nations and tribes, so that you might come to know one another.  Verily, the noblest of you in the sight of God is the one who is most deeply conscious of Him. Behold, God is all-knowing, all-aware.

Pamela Geller and Garland Shooting, a breach of public safety with gratuitous defense of freedom of speech.

I was interviews on six TV/Radio stations today about the issue, notes follow the press release:

PRESS RELEASE

Pamela Geller and Garland Shooting, a breach of public safety with gratuitous defense of freedom of speech

Dallas, Texas – “Here we go again at the game of provoking and getting provoked, causing undesirable public safety nightmares.”  Mike Ghouse, president of America Together foundation said in a statement released today.

“We condemn the shooting at Garland, Texas at ‘'Muhammad Art Exhibit’ intended as an expression of free speech by drawing cartoons of Prophet Muhammad to provoke Muslims for no reason.  We do realize that we have no control over those who tease people, and those who get irritated and resort to violence. Both are nut cases causing public safety concerns tearing the cohesive fabric of our nation.”

There is no doubt, we have to defend the freedom of speech, that is the God given right of every human, indeed, I have defended Pamela Geller’s right to speak when United Kingdom banned her speech in London. We have defended the rights of Pastor Terry Jones to burn copies of the Quran in Florida, and have defended Sheikh Rachid al-Ghannouchi's right to free speech at Yale which Pamela Geller opposed.

We need to care about our nation and do those things that build a cohesive America, where fellow Americans can come together with respect and dignity for each other rather than irritate and provoke each other.”

The organizers of 'Muhammad Art Exhibit' at Garland ISD facility “said they were exercising their freedom of expression. The district's decision drew criticism from critics and Islamic groups who said the event was an attack on Islam.” Dallas Morning News.

The Muslim community was very well prepared, and had decided to stay out of it and not even pay attention to it. However two stray men fell to the provocation and took it upon themselves to shoot out.  The Muslim community condemns that action. Indeed, Imam Zia Sheikh is concerned about the after effects, Media and right wing will have a field day with this. Just what we didn't want.” We regret the whole incident.

We do support the decision of Garland ISD to rent the facility, and urge the FBI and Police to do a thorough investigation and the find out who else was involved with the shooters, so we can take corrective action.

I urge Pamela Geller to continue to defend freedom of speech and I will stand with her as I have, however, there is no need to provoke fellow Americans and cause safety issues for the public, we have enough problems to deal with and don’t need any more of these incidents.

NOTES FROM MY TV and RADIO SHOWS
This was the theme of conversation in all media -  uncompromising support for freedom of speech, breach of public safety with
gratuitous defense of freedom of speech.
I am glad the media has been fair in giving the time to express the issues clearly and succinctly. Please refer to the press release link and the link about freedom of speech below, I pretty much stayed with it and had an opportunity to add a few additional points at Al Hurra TV, Fox Radio Network (250 Stations) and NPR (160 Stations).

11:00 Voice of America Urdu Service

11:30 Voice of America English Service
12:45 Turkish Radio
01:00 Local Radio in Louisville
02:35 Fox Radio Stations affiilates across America with Hannity Geller
03:25 Al Hurra Arabic TV
05:30 NPR
-----------------------
Al Hurra TV

After
the theme of conversation in all media -  uncompromising support for freedom of speech, breach of public safety with gratuitous defense of freedom of speech.
I responded strongly to the question, what should Muslims do to change the situation? Get out of the Mosques and build relationships, Prophet Muhammad did that, he laid the foundation for cohesive societies by making friends with people around him from Jews,  Christians, pagans and others. We stick around too much in the mosque, we need to get out and be with the people, that should be our priority. The more we know each other, the lesser the problems we would have. Most Americans don't know what we are, and  to change the perceptions about us,  we have to get out and be with the people, we need to go to he mosque, but also allocate time to follow Prophet's foundational Sunnah - to be the Amins. We live in self imposed silos and it is time to change.
-------------
Fox Radio

After the theme of conversation in all media -  uncompromising support for freedom of speech, breach of public safety with gratuitous defense of freedom of speech. It will be rebroadcast at 5:00 PM in 250 Radio stations across the nations.  We ended speaking it out loudly...

Pamela Geller or ISIS or radical Muslims do not represent the views of mainstream Americans or Muslims - why give credence to such comments? - Just finished the talk with Hannity and Geller.
I stand by freedom of speech, but this was an useless provocative event to tease the extremists among Muslims. 2 People have died and one injured who should be responsible?
There is no problem with Islam or Quran, the problem is with a few Muslims, just as Geller there are her counterparts among Muslims. I have offered her the Quran challenge and told them the formula - read three verses before and after the given supposedly maligned verse.
Hannity asked the age of the prophet's wife - I said 15, Pamela jumps all over me calling it deception. She is deceiving with the false information.
Islam stands for free speech, yes, we do have a few radicals among us, just as others have their share. .
I invite criticism of the prophet, Islam etc. Criticism of Islam, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and free speech
-----------
NPR

It was a good 15 minutes interview. Ian Smith is certainly a good interviewer - he brought out the influence of Pamela Geller - legislation in 22 states to ban Sharia, even though it does not exist. I will have to take her on boldly.

Spoke within the lines of the press release and then extensively on Sharia Laws. This will be rebroadcast tonite at 9:30 in 160 Stations across America.

-----------
Dear Mike,

As a rabbi, Jew, and Fellow American who believes in free speech, I believe it is crucial for all Americans of good will to join together against those who would misuse their right of free speech to deliberately provoke or scapegoat other faith groups. As a Jew, coming from a people who have historically been singled out for persecution, Pamela Geller should be ashamed. There is a religious tradition in our faith that shaming another human being is compared to "spilling their blood," God forbid-- why? Because when another person, who is made in God's image, is embarrassed or made to feel ashamed, they blush. Jews and Muslims are cousins in faith, going back to our shared foreparents, Abraham and Sarah.

We must always be "lovers of peace and pursuers of peace." I am proud to call you a friend and a builder of bridges.

Sincerely,

Rabbi David Hartley Mark

-----------

Dr. Robert Hunt wrote this and sums up what I have said in my show with Hannity,
"This wasn't about free speech, it was about selling hatred as a therapy for anxiety and fear. A band of insignificant losers sought to offend people in the most obnoxious possible way and succeeded in getting a violent reaction from two equally insignificant losers. The group holding the event proved nothing about free speech, and the two shooters died defending nothing but their unjustified anger."
--------

Imam Zia Sheikh kept the same line on CNN - free speech
-----

Jewish community is embarrassed with Geller's antics, and here is a good piece at Daily Beast about it - http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/05/04/je-suis-pamela-geller.html?via=desktop&source=facebook
